Moss awarded Michelin star

The 2023 Nordic Guide awarded a Michelin star to Moss Restaurant, located in the Blue Lagoon Retreat, making the Retreat the first luxury hotel in Iceland to receive this prize.

Moss has become the third restaurant in Iceland to receive the highly esteemed Michelin star. Dill was the first Icelandic restaurant to achieve it in 2017, followed by Óx last year.

Chef Aggi Sverrisson and the entire team at Moss Restaurant are incredible proud of the achievement. Aggi had an amazing journey until he became the Executive Chef at Moss. He was born in Iceland and his cooking career began at the age of 18, leading him to England where he joined Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, the oldest two Michelin-starred restaurant in the country. Promoted to Head Chef in 2005, he launched his first independent venture in 2007, becoming the chef patron and mastermind of London’s renowned Texture Restaurant & Champagne Bar. Honored with a Michelin star in 2010, Texture retained its coveted award for ten remarkable years. In 2020, Aggi returned to his native country, taking the Executive Chef position at Moss Restaurant, where he integrates Asian flavors as he explores Iceland’s culinary frontiers, transforming seasonal ingredients into timeless gourmet experiences.

With menus that move effortlessly from the mountains to the rivers to the seas, each dish opens the door to the diverse delights of Iceland’s endless bounty of nourishment. Based on the finest, freshest local ingredients, the multi-course set menus change with the seasons.

You can also visit the exquisite wine cellar of the Retreat, this is a subterranean sanctuary three meters deep in the earth. A cavern of multicolored, frozen-in-time lava that erupted in the year 1226. Anchored by Old World wines from France’s celebrated wine growing regions—with a focus on Bordeaux and Burgundy—as well as selections from the classic vineyards of Italy, Spain, and Germany. The timeless heritage embodied by the wine list is complemented by wines from some of the preeminent New World wine producers of the Americas and Australia.
